PHA 5% Succinic Acid 2%

Polyhydroxy acids, PHAs, are chemical exfoliants, and are considered ‘cousins’ of alpha hydroxy acids, they are, second-generation AHA.

The molecules of PHAs are much larger and therefore cannot penetrate as deeply as AHAs, they work exclusively on the surface, without disturbing the deeper layers. Because of this, they are not irritating and skin does not become photo-sensitive, or susceptible to UV.

The last advantage of PHA vs AHA is hydration. PHA molecules is a humectant thus it will keep the skin hydrated.

Some studies have shown that PHA can be as effective against P. Acnes compared with benzoyl peroxide but it has no side effects (does not dry skin).

Succinic Acid from Amber (also called Amber Acid) has been used in Europe as a natural antibiotic for centuries.

It helps to clear up blemishes by supporting your skin’s natural peeling mechanisms to get rid of dead skin cells and unclog pores. It also helps to reduce skin’s oil levels. It has an antibacterial effect, outperforming salicylic acid for P acnes bacteria.

At the cellular level, succinic acid accelerates metabolic processes that promote skin rejuvenation reinforcing PHA exfoliant effect.

Our PHA / Succinic acid toner is targeted towards normal, oily and combination skin. Because it is very mild and hydrating, it works on both normal and sensitive skin. It can be used daily, but as always, start with a patch test.
